Authors: Miss Read and Derek Crowe

A must for all Miss Read fans
Early Days is actually the combination of two Miss Read autobiographies...A Fortunate Grandchild and Time Remembered. In this very readable compillation, the author Dora Shafe recalls her life in a rambling home in Southe London. There is an extended family near at hand and much love to balance the demands and strains of everyday. Although the Great War was stll a looming presence, there are stories of how holidays were celebrated and trips to the seaside. Dora also tells of her school adventures and the discovering the Kent countryside that her family had relocated to. Adjustment to school and 'country ' life was a challange and an adventure. In this simple retelling it is east to discover the roots of the Thrush Green stories and the communities that have become so beloved to so many readers. This is a delightful book, a must for all Miss Read fans

Good News for Miss Read fans.
Early Days is a new book containing two previous books published by Miss Read. They are A Fortunate Grandchild and Time Remembered. Both of these are charming remenisences of a time gone by, by an author who tells stories in such a way that you never want them to end. These are events from her early life before and around the First World War. It is great to have these volumes available again, and I highly recommend them to anyone who loves and appreciates Miss Read's work. These are non-fiction.

Eastern Sierra Fishing Guide for Day Hikers
Published in Paperback by John Barbier (August, 1999)
Author: John Barbier
Average review score:

Stairway to Heaven
Here's a real flyfisherman that has allowed each one of us into his own backyard. Mr Barbier's book, Eastern Sierra Guide for Day Hikers' tells his secrets on where to go, how to get there and what to use for a memorable day on the water. The Day Hikers' Guide has become my bible in the Sierra.

A priceless guide to heaven on earth.
Barbier's book has opened up a whole new world to me. It's a fantastic, accessible, yet underutilized world away from all that ails our gotta have it now society.

The guide at the back of the book tells so much in so little space--it lists distances to each lake, the type of fish there, difficulty, region of the sierras, and more. This, like so much of the book, understates its value. Mr. Barbier's brief comments about essential gear, lures, fishing etiquette, mosquito avoidance, has taught me more than I've been able to learn on my own after too many trials and even more errors.

This is not a fisherman's only guide. Every hiker, backpacker, and naturalist who appreciates the beauty of discovering an unspoiled lake in the least likely places, high in the sierras, would do well to use this straightforward, beautifully simple book.

Write on, Mr. Barbier. You have a wonderful story to tell!

Eighth Day of Creation: Discovering Your Gifts and Using Them
Published in Paperback by W Publishing Group (June, 1993)
Author: Elizabeth O'Connor
Average review score:

This Book Changed My Life
This book convinced me of the importance of recognizing one's gifts -- and just as importantly, owning up to them, instead of dismissing them with false notions of modesty -- and then finding the best way of giving those gifts back to God and the community. I realized that gifts and talents left undeveloped and unexpressed lead to frustration and unhappiness; and that pursuing the development of one's gifts is holy work. That may sound self-absorbed, but it's actually the opposite; it's a matter of opening oneself up to allow God to work through your life. This book is out of print, so whenever I see a copy at a used bookstore I buy one and pass it along. Let this book change your life, too!

Nothing better written on the subject of spiritual gifts.
Elizabeth O'Connor's insights and prophesies are a must reading for Christians in an age that has lost it's way. She makes the case for discovering and using the gifts of God, in a way that no other modern christian writer has been able to do. Every serious christian pilgrim and christian community should read and heed the author's admonitions and advice. Elizabeth O'Connor makes a serious argument that no one on the christian journey should proceed without first discovering, claiming, and employing their spiritual gifts. Her prescription for this dicovery, claiming, and employment of one's gifts is classic. Read the book. It will change your life and the lives of those in whose love you live.

The Eighth Day of the Week
Published in Paperback by Pleasure Boat Studio (October, 2000)
Author: Alfred Kessler
Average review score:

A captivating mystery
This book is really a captivating mystery disguised as an artful novel. The main character, a doctor, has a mystery (or really, several), hidden in his past. As his story unfolds, we are riveted by the plot -- what is in his past? How did the action happen? I would call this book a "reverse mystery" -- the events happened in the past and are only now being revealed by the main player.

The very fine writing makes unravelling this mystery a pleasure. I had to read the book all in one sitting because I couldn't wait to find out what had happened. I would recommend this most highly to anyone interested in an artfully told story.

EIGHTH DAY WORTH THE WAIT
THE EIGHTH DAY OF THE WEEK is an extraordinary first novel. Both my wife and I were mesmerized by its dark, barroom moodiness, its many poetic passages, and, of course, the mystery and intrique. The narrator, a doctor, tells his story, which we gradually realize is a confession,to a young woman in a bar. In a booth nearby, another woman watches and waits. We slowly gather clues about who this woman is, and what her relationship is to the younger woman who looks like her, or as she might have looked years ago. The story the doctor tells, in what has become a ritualized retelling, involves his wife, his troubled children, eventually his wife's lover, her child by him, and, as we slowly and painfully discover, an unimaginable, almost unpardonable sin. The air of mystery, and growing tension, between the story he tells and the barroom frame story in which the story/confession is told -- this is what kept us hooked from page one. In fact, it's almost impossible not to read the novel straight through. I recommend it to anyone who's interested in clear, expressive writing, and in the strange workings of memory, guilt, and loss -- and also love, how it weaves its delicate web to catch and hold us.

The End of Days: A Memoir of the Holocaust (Religion, Theology, and the Holocaust)
Published in Paperback by Syracuse Univ Pr (Trade) (01 February, 2000)
Author: Helen Sendyk
Average review score:

Multiply This by Six Million
Six million dead is hard to bend your mind around. This small book gives part of the experiences of one family and ultimately one survivor. If you have a hard time grasping the enormity of the Holocaust read this book. It is raw, open and honest. It is one person's experience of the monstrosity of the Third Reich. Sendyk tells her story from the perspective of a young girl and with the wisdom of a mature woman. Three from a family of ten survived. Many more from their extended family were killed. If you are studying the holocaust, read this book. It puts a human face on Six Million.

Eye-witness testimony to brutal and horrific inhumanity
The End Of Days: A Memoir Of The Holocaust is the personal memoir of Helen Sendyk, one of very few Jewish women to survive the living hell of a German slave labor camp during the Nazi Holocaust of World War II. A personal, eye-witness testimony to brutal and horrific inhumanity inflicted upon the women by their Nazi captors and collaborators, as well as a testament the enduring strength of Helen Sendyk's inner qualities that enabled her to survive when so many others could not, The End Of Days is a moving account and a very highly recommended contribution to Holocaust Studies reading lists and reference collections -- especially in view of the pernicious attempts in some quarters to deny the appalling atrocities of the "Final Solution".

Epic Battles of the Last Days
Published in Hardcover by Morningstar Publications (December, 1995)
Author: Rick Joyner
Average review score:

One of his best...
I've been reading Mr. Joyner for years, have stepped back from active ministry because of the very things he discusses in this book, and am now rekindled to pick up his works and read them afresh (no doubt, with a greal deal of new understanding and insight into the depth of the topics he boldly nails).

This title, 'Epic Battles of the Last Days,' I consider one of his strongest discourses. The main theme is spiritual warfare, and that inside the church. Reader, you will be challenged from every side, you will be called to test yourself against the measure of the Word, you will be prompted to review your personal lifestyle and relational patterns. You will be uncomfortable, if you read this tome to reflect upon yourself.

I have no doubt there will be those who read this book and see everyone else but themselves within the pages. It's too bad, because those souls will lose out on the rich treasure-trove of wisdom that would serve to bolster their faith and strengthen their resolve to make a marked difference in Body life and ministry - one to another and to the world. The points the author makes (and deconstructs, rebuilds) will serve to be practical application. It's well done.

Mr. Joyner, keep following the Lord's voice for He's called you to speak forth a difficult message. Even so, know that more and more are beginning to hear, and to listen. This book is a much-needed blessing for the broken and battered Church the world over.

Epic Battles of the Last Days
The book displays the spiritual insight that I have come to expect from Rick Joyner's Books. I can read the book over and over and still find fresh guidance in its content. The book is like a cool splash of truth to counter today's delusions.

The Essene Book of Days - 1999
Published in Paperback by Earthstewards Network (September, 1998)
Author: Danaan Parry
Average review score:

If I'm not mistaken, Danaan Perry, the author passed away .
I have used these journals in the past, and they, along with some very intensive, introspective work, transformed my life. Just one comment, the author passed away some years back, so who's writing the journals now?

This book is in journal form as you journey 1999.
The author, Danaan Parry spent considerable time reflecting and meditating on the early Christians, the Essene community. His hope is that some will choose to emulate this small group of early Christians.

His writings come to us in meditation form with a "thought-for-the-day to reflect upon. It is written so that both a morning and evening quiet time of daily meditation are provided to the reader.

I have used this annual update for a number of years and find it helpful in my own journey. The Essenes were very much in touch with the natural progress and very aware of the belonging we all have in the universe and to each other.

Incredible Insight
I have only read one passage from this book, and if it is any indication of the rest, it is a MUST reading for anyone. The author's view on "Transition of Fear" made me cry. READ THIS.

a daily companion for the past ten years
This journal/meditation book has been a daily companion for the last ten years. The first year, I only used it sporadically to read the meditations. After that, I purchased a copy each year and it became part of my morning ritual of quieting and setting an intention for the day. As I look back over these ten little books now, these journals chronicle some major changes in my life, and the constant little day-to-day concerns, but the most important pattern that emerges is the practice of sitting down to write each morning, and beginning each day with a spiritual focus.

Every Day I Pray for My Teenager: A Handbook of Spiritual Pragers for the Mothers of Teenagers
Published in Paperback by Creation House (February, 1997)
Authors: Estman Curtis and Eastman Curtis
Average review score:

Prayers right from God's Word
This book is wonderful! It is full of powerful prayers for real-life situations teenagers face such as drug abuse, abortion, future career decisions, walking more closely with God, doing well in school, peer pressure, etc, etc. The prayers are powerful because they are directly from Scripture. This book is not for the teens themselves to use but for those who love them and are praying for them. It helps you find God's promises to claim for your teens. It gives you exact scripture references for almost every sentence of the prayers so that you know you are praying along with God's will. It puts the power of God's Word into your prayers.

An Excellent prayers for the teens of Spirit filled mothers
If you are a Spirit filled Christian concerned about a teen, this book is a God send. It covers the themes we are concerned about such as: their spiritual life, sexuality, character, relationships, education, careers, and maturity. There are 136 prayers each back by a list a scriptures relating to the prayer. As a fund raising project I have sold over 42 of these books. A number of people have brought multiple copies, often as gifts to friends and family. I highly recommend this book
